The word "iliotropion" is translated from Greek as "sunflower". According to the ancient Roman writer Pliny, "the sunflower plant represents a kind of miracle in nature: it has its head constantly turned toward the sun, and with it it turns from east to west, even on cloudy days, to the extent that it loves the sun so much". This property makes this flower a symbol of the Christian who is always seeking God - the immaterial Sun that illuminates all creation - and is always ready to do His will. St. John (Maximovich)'s book "Iliotropion" is devoted to the problem of harmonizing the human will with the will of God and is intended for the widest range of readers.
