Evagrius of Pontus was a famous representative of monastic writing of the fourth century, a disciple of the great holy Cappadocian Fathers. The proposed work "On Thoughts" contains a subtle analysis of the inner world of a monk-movement, waging an invisible battle against the devil and needing the right criterion - the gift of "discernment of thoughts". The book reveals the deep psychological laws of experienced Orthodox asceticism and spiritual life in general. This work has been translated by Prof. A. I. Sidorov of the MDA and is provided with extensive commentary on the text, which further deepens the reader's understanding of it.
