Icelandic strands

The collection of so-called strands - stories that were woven into the hagiographies of Norwegian rulers ("royal sagas") created in Iceland in the XIII-XIV centuries - is the most complete collection of all those ever published both in the original language and in translation into foreign languages. The strands are distinguished by their fascination and dynamism, a high degree of dramatization of the action, and a variety of themes and plots. In addition to "yarns about trips from the country" - stories about Icelanders achieving success in foreign lands, which form the main and most famous part of the extant corpus of ancient Scandinavian short prose, the book also includes numerous stories of a different kind. These are "strands about baptism", "strands about strife", stories about travels to strange other lands, "strands about skalds", stories about dreams, and so on.
