Every grandfather castle that has stood in the world for hundreds of years holds a secret. One sheltered a company of harmful trolls, the second one held the English king prisoner, and in the windows of the third one a pale woman in a white dress was seen at night ...
Amazing medieval legends about castles and their environs have come down to us from folk storytellers. These are stories where Christian miracles neighbor with mystical transformations, where brave knights and beautiful princesses live, where there is pure and sincere love. The author of the book Ekaterina Vyacheslavovna Balobanova (1847-1927) was a Russian writer, librarian and teacher, an expert in Celtic language and literature. This collection includes the legends of Brittany and the Rhine, collected by her from the words of local residents during her travels in Europe in the 1860s - 1870s. The book is accompanied by many illustrations, including early works by the artist E.E. Lansere, created by him for the 1899 edition.
