A struggle for power, for family, for the soul...

In search of a better life, Pavel Likhovtsev decides to move with his family from a small village to Khabarovsk. Behind him are his beloved apiary, his faithful cow Mashenka, and his familiar life. Ahead lie the turbulent 1990s, the epicenter of a struggle for influence in the city and the endlessly difficult lessons of growing up. His friend Yurka promises brilliant prospects, luring Pavel to work for the "Obshchak" organized crime group. A shootout, a murder, a single glance—and all roads lead to an abyss where only those guided by instinct survive. Pavel's son, Zhenya Likhovtsev, also finds himself caught in this whirlwind. Painfully trying to find solid ground, help his family, and not betray his father, he grows up, falls in love, and longs to live. But a choice must still be made: Us or them?
