The Volsunga Saga is one of the most famous works of medieval literature. Dating from the 13th century, it belongs to the genre of "Sagas of Ancient Times," which recount events that occurred before the settlement of Iceland. The saga's plot describes the rise and fall of the Volsung line, including the story of Brynhild and the destruction of the House of Burgundy. The reader will encounter heroes of the pan-Germanic epic tradition, viewed through the lens of Scandinavian mentality, providing an insight into the thinking, customs, and structure of early Icelandic society.

The saga was translated by Boris Isaakovich Yarkho (1889–1942) and first published in 1934 by Academia. This edition includes the translator's notes and historical information, which facilitate understanding of the text, as well as a preface by the academic editor, Alexander Khlevov.

The publication is given a particularly expressive quality by the graphics of Olga Simonova, the author of the exhibition project "From the Varangians to the Greeks," which includes six etchings from the "Volsunga Saga" that are part of the Vyborg Castle Museum collection.
