Eduard Bagritsky is the greatest Soviet poet of the generation of the first "revolutionary romantics" who came to literature after the poets of the Silver Age and came of age during the years of the Civil War and the Revolution, inspired by its ideals. Bagritsky's early death (he was 38 years old) cut short his life at the peak of his creative powers, and in the following years his image became one of the Soviet legends - the image of the herald of a new world, held together by "steel and lead."
