The unexpected and bloody First World War separates two young lovers. Officer of the Russian Imperial Army Alexander Belozersky and nurse Pavlina Vyazemskaya go through many cruel trials on the way to happiness. The wounded Belozersky is treated in a hospital in Crimea, where his beloved girl tries to find him. However, the tragic events of the Civil War again threaten their well-being.

The fates of the main characters are closely intertwined with the fates of Grand Duchess Olga Alexandrovna, Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna, Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich (Sandro) and other members of the imperial house, who wait out the revolutionary storm in their Crimean estates.

The book "The Guiding Star" is a continuation of the novels "Quiet Haven" and "The Cherished Shore", but it can also be read as an independent work.
