Nikolai Pavlovich Zadornov (1909–1992) was a renowned writer and author of historical novels chronicling the exploration of Siberia and the Far East by Russian pioneers (the Captain Nevelskoy trilogy, the novels "Father Amur," and "The Gold Rush"). His later career included a large-scale cycle entitled "The Saga of the Russian Argonauts," a captivating account of the important expedition of Russian Admiral E. V. Putyatin to the shores of Japan. This edition includes the novels "Heda" and "Hong Kong," which tell the story of the expedition members' lives in Japan, where they were forced to build a new vessel for the return voyage (their ship was wrecked by a powerful tsunami). However, en route to Russia, the sailors were intercepted by the British and ended up as prisoners of war in Hong Kong, a major trading port at the center of a clash of interests between the world's most powerful nations.
