Nikolai Pavlovich Zadornov (1909–1992) was a renowned writer, author of historical novels depicting the exploration of Siberia and the Far East by Russian pioneers (the Captain Nevelskoy trilogy, and the novels "Father Amur" and "Gold Rush"). His late career included a large-scale cycle, which the author himself called "The Saga of the Russian Argonauts." This edition includes the first two novels: "Tsunami" and "Shimoda." Readers will find here a fascinating account of Russian Admiral Yevgeny Putyatin's expedition to the shores of Japan, which took place in the mid-19th century, at the height of the Crimean War. At the time, establishing diplomatic and trade relations with this distant and mysterious country was crucial for Russia. However, America and Great Britain had their own plans for Japan.
