In August 1942, Captain Ivan Banov (codename "Cherny") parachuted into the Bulevoye Marshland near Zhitkovichi on assignment from the General Staff's Intelligence Directorate. He was tasked with gathering information about the enemy in Brest, Baranovichi, Pinsk, Rivne, and Kovel, controlling Nazi rail traffic, determining the location of their major air bases, and monitoring the movements of military units. His soldiers carried out daring acts of sabotage and obtained invaluable information. They discovered and described enemy tanks and Tiger, Panther, and Ferdinand self-propelled guns, and in the spring of 1944, they crossed the Bug River and, with the help of Polish patriots, began reconnaissance of Warsaw, Lublin, and Demblin. All of this is recounted in the book.
