The touching story of a slave girl who had to go through many trials before finding long-awaited freedom and happiness with her beloved is well known throughout the world.

The novel by Brazilian writer Bernardo Guimarães (1875), imbued with the pathos of protecting human dignity, struck readers at the time with the acuteness and relevance of the topic: slavery in Brazil was abolished only thirteen years after the publication of the novel. Under the influence of the book, ardent sympathy for its main character, in many Brazilian families girls were given the name Isaura.

A hundred years later, Bernardo Guimarães' novel formed the basis of a television series (1976), which was shown with great success in different countries. Since then, the novel "Slave Isaura" has become a cult classic: readers are attracted to it not only by the reliably depicted life and customs of provincial Brazil in the mid-19th century, but also by the happy ending - the triumph of a pure and noble soul.
