The book that the reader holds in his hands is unique. It is dedicated to the famous Russian saint Elizabeth Feodorovna Romanova, born Princess Ella of Hesse-Darmstadt, sister of the last Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Both women earned the crown of martyrdom, but each embodies the image of holiness, like the biblical sisters Martha and Mary, who were honored to receive Christ. It is not for nothing that the monastery founded by Elizabeth Feodorovna in Moscow is called Martha and Mary. Nevertheless, before us is not a hagiography, but a reverent, vivid story about the earthly life of a beautiful, amazingly kind woman who occupied a high position in society, was happy and loved by her husband, Grand Duke Sergei Alexandrovich. The author dispels the myth that the fate of the Grand Duchess changed dramatically only after the murder of her husband by the terrorist Ivan Kalyaev - Elizaveta Feodorovna left the world and devoted herself to helping her neighbors. On the contrary, charitable deeds accompanied Princess Ella both at home in Germany and in the new, real home of her heart - in Russia. And it was her husband, her beloved Sergei, who set the future saint on the path of helping people, who looked after the Russian Red Cross and headed the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society. The book is written in a bright, lively language and leaves a surprisingly bright feeling, although its heroine was killed in Alapaevsk - a feeling of moral victory over evil and hope for a better fate for our Fatherland.
