Vladimir Volkoff (1932-2005) was born in 1932 in Paris to a family of Russian émigrés. He is the great-nephew of Pyotr Tchaikovsky. He studied at the Lycée Claude Bernard in Paris, then at the Sorbonne, specializing in classical literature. During the Algerian War, he served in French counterintelligence (1957-1962). A PhD candidate at the University of Liege and professor, he taught French and Russian literature and languages in France and, from the 1960s, for 11 years in the United States. Since 1978, he has devoted himself entirely to writing. From early childhood, Vladimir Volkoff lived in a world of two alphabets, two calendars, and two civilizations. From the moment his first books were published, his name became widely known: French newspapers proudly dubbed 1982 "the year of Volkov." He is the author of over 50 books.
One of the most iconic is "Montage" ("Le Montage"), which sparked controversy in the international press and on television. The essence of the narrative is the manipulation of information. The book was translated into 12 languages (published under various titles) and won the Grand Prix of the French Academy. This theme remains highly relevant today. Vladimir Volkoff was awarded the Legion of Honor and the Order of Arts and Letters. He is a laureate of the International Peace Prize (1989) and literary prizes of the French Academy (1982). He is also a recipient of the Chateaubriand and Jules Verne Prizes, and the Pushkin Medal of the Russian Academy of Literature.
