Historian Karl Lamprecht (1856-1915) was one of the brightest German scientists who became the founder and actual head of the psychological historical school. Lamprecht the historian tried to see the subject as broadly as the development of the historical science of that time allowed, suggesting that our civilization consists in the assertion of the psychological need of man to live within the framework of an organized community, as well as in the feeling of the necessity of collective interaction. Some of Lamprecht's ideas had a significant influence on the views of the annalists, most notably Marc Bloch.
In this volume, the author describes the earliest period of Germanic history, depicting the social structure, way of life, spiritual life, relations with neighbors, primarily Rome, and the beginning of the formation of the first states.
