Early in the morning at the Brooklyn shopping center, a cultural attraction point for many residents of the small town of Voskresensk-33, Kostya meets his former classmate, Zhenka. Zhenka, who was teased and despised by everyone at school, is now well-dressed, expensive-looking and, in general, turns out to be the head of the factory from which Kostya has just been fired.
How did he do it? It's simple - he sold his soul to the devil. At first Kostya refuses to believe it, but meeting with Zhenka reveals cracks in reality that Kostya had previously refused to notice. Can the devil choose not Moscow or St. Petersburg as his place of earthly residence, but a small town in the Trans-Urals, which is not even on the map? And why, by the way, is it not on the map? And how does this relate to the fact that time in Voskresensk-33 seemed to freeze in endless October, and Kostya suddenly began to see dead people...?
