Nikolai Pavlovich Zadornov (1909-1992) was a famous Russian writer, honored cultural worker of the Latvian SSR (1969). His pen belonged to two large series of works about the development of Siberia and the Far East by Russian pioneers in the XIX century. "Gold Rush" - a continuation of the widely known novel "Amur-batyushka". In the last decades of the XIX century on the numerous tributaries of the Amur were discovered rich gold placers. Driven by need and deprivation settlers went to the taiga to wash the noble metal. Here and there, deep in the Amur forests, "brotherly republics" of prospectors with their own laws and rulers emerged. Some of them even engaged in open struggle with the tsarist authorities.
