Innokenty Annensky was a prominent Russian poet, playwright, translator, and critic, born in 1855. Although his work did not receive the recognition it deserved during his lifetime, it exerted a significant influence on the younger generation of Symbolists (Alexander Blok, Andrei Bely, and others).

Annesky's poetry is distinguished by a unique view of the world: phenomena and objects become larger than themselves, acquiring a unique, surreal aura. The mystical effect of his poems will also appeal to a modern generation of readers sensitive to the otherworldly.

Innokenty Annensky is one of the most prominent figures in Russian poetry, whose work continues to fascinate scholars and provokes reflection on the question: "What is poetry?"
