Anna Andreyevna Akhmatova (1889-1966) was a poet whose work is unequivocally ranked among the golden fund of Russian literature. "Akhmatova's poetry is not the same for new people as it is for us. We were perplexed, surprised, delighted, argued, and finally became proud. They don't need our raptures. They are not surprised because they came later," wrote philologist B.M. Eichenbaum in 1923.
The present edition contains poems from the books "Evening", "The rosary", "White pack", "Plantain", "Appo Domini", "Reed" published before 1940, as well as poems of this period that were not included in the books. The volume is provided with a preface and notes prepared by N.I. Kraineva.
