This collection includes tales collected on the Tersky Coast of the White Sea. These lands have long been inhabited by Pomor fishermen, who retold well-known tales in their own way and created their own: about Arkhangelsk salt, the bird with an iron nose and a wooden tail, the mouse's boat, and others. All these tales retain the charm of antiquity and the melodious peculiarity of northern speech.

These tales were told to writer Dmitry Balashov by residents of the Tersky Coast during his expeditions through the North in the 1950s and 1960s.

The book's illustrations were created by Karina Solovieva, who has also traveled to this region many times and painted its amazing, understated beauty from life.
