Marie-Lafon wrote about the history, culture, and language of his native land. In particular, he studied the characteristics of Provençal (Occitan), a language spoken in southern France. It was also known as the language of the troubadours, as it was in Provençal that many medieval poets composed their works. Seeking to popularize Occitan literature, Marie-Lafon translated and reworked several ancient literary works. One of these was the chivalric romance of Geoffrey, written by an unknown author around the 13th century.

Its plot tells the story of a young man who desires to demonstrate his knightly valor and avenge an insult inflicted on the great King Arthur by a certain enemy. Geoffrey sets out in search of the villain, experiencing various adventures, finding love, and overcoming numerous dangers.

The romance of Geoffrey is the only work of the Arthurian cycle in Occitan. In 1856, Marie-Lafon published a revised version of the novel under the title "The Knight Geoffrey and the Beautiful Brunissenda."
