About the Kid Who Could Count to Ten

The protagonist of this fairy tale by the renowned Norwegian poet, writer, and composer Alf Prøysen is a kid who has learned to count to ten. Eager to put his knowledge to use, he assigns numbers to everyone he meets while walking: "One is me, two is the calf, three is the cow. One, two, three!" The characters counted by the kid, due to their ignorance, become offended and are determined to punish the kid for his high-handedness. The group of disgruntled people grows larger with each page of the book. They run after the kid, intending to beat him up (or talk some sense into him) so that he will not dare to infringe on the personal freedom of others in the future.
