In the rich and multifaceted legacy of the great Russian scholar, historian and liturgist A. A. Dmitrievsky, of special interest is the series of works "Church Celebrations on Great Feast Days in the Orthodox East" - inspired and vivid, written from personal recollections and impressions, sketches of the divine service of the Bi-Monthly Feasts in the Holy Land. A. A. Dmitrievsky, a professor at the Kiev Theological Academy, and then, in 1906-1918, secretary of the Imperial Orthodox Palestine Society, its ideologist and chronicler, repeatedly visited Palestine, worked in the book depositories of Jerusalem and Sinai, studied the peculiarities of worship and ritual of the Jerusalem Church, and looked at the life of Russian pilgrims. The result of many years of observation and reflection were the publications that appeared in 1901-1913 in little-known magazines and individual reprints, which have long since become bibliographic rarities. Collected and published together for the first time, they form a unique book combining masterful mastery of the entire arsenal of techniques and knowledge of historical and liturgical science, accurate and skillful reference to the ecclesiological-archaeological, architectural and ethnographic realities of the Holy Land, its temples and monasteries, and, finally, a deep understanding of the interests and psychology of the Orthodox pilgrim - the direct "addressee" of both the divine service and the shrines of Jerusalem and Palestine.
