Joseph Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936) was an English writer, poet and publicist. He wrote poetry throughout his life: the dates of creation of many poems are separated by thirty to forty years. Some of his poems are familiar to us, although we do not always remember their authorship. The romance “Behind the Gypsy Star”, famous thanks to Nikita Mikhalkov’s performance, was written to the text of Kipling’s poem of the same name. Kipling opened a new page in European poetry, directing it into the mainstream of mass folk song. It is also appropriate to talk about the educational mission of the English poet, who replaced the elegant style with the modest romanticism of everyday life. The best poems of Rudyard Kipling are written in the traditions of the English ballad with its characteristic simplicity and accessibility to the reader. The proposed edition includes works that were not included in the famous collections compiled by the author.
