I.K. Babst and K.P. Pobedonostsev's book is dedicated to the 1863 voyage of Alexander II's eldest son, Tsarevich Nikolai Alexandrovich (1843–1865). Published in 1864, the book not only described the Tsarevich's journey but also included the professors' reflections on the difficulties that post-reform Russia had to overcome. However, the Tsarevich died without realizing the ideas his teachers had written about. This reprint includes illustrations by A.P. Bogolyubov.

This publication continues the "Golden Fund of the Russian Geographical Society" series, which previously included the two-volume work "23,000 Miles on the Yacht Tamara."
