"The Boys" is a story about boys who were called "difficult to raise" in the 1980s, and the man who believed in them—Pavel Antonov, played by Valery Priemykhov.

Antonov, a promising athlete, gives up his career for these boys—he is perhaps the only one who sees them as people, not future criminals. He doesn't always have an easy time with them, and he doesn't expect gratitude—he simply does what he believes he should do.

And when these "difficult" boys, rejected by society, shunned by "decent" people, suddenly break into a run down the highway to catch up with one of them and stop him from committing the irreparable, we begin to see in them what only he, Pavel Antonov, saw.
