This collection includes the most famous legends born in the Middle Ages in Germany: of the rat-catcher of Hamel, who rid the city of the rats that had infested it, but did not receive the agreed payment for this; of Lohengrin, the beautiful knight of the Swan, who from time to time appears wherever the weak and wronged need to be protected; of the river fairy Lorelei, who sings a seductive song on a rock, luring swimmers into a ruinous whirlpool; of the black-magician Dr. Faustus, who sold his soul to the devil, meanwhile exalted and poetized by the popular imagination.
These legends were brilliantly retold for children by the famous children's writer Sofia Prokofieva. And the drawings to them - unusually expressive, illustrating the course of the story in detail - were created by the inimitable Nika Golts.
