The Lunyu (Selected Discourses), or in the generally accepted translation, "Discourses and Discourses," is a classic work preserving the philosophical legacy of Confucius and his disciples. Originating during the Eastern Zhou Dynasty (8th–3rd centuries BCE), it ultimately encompasses the Master's conversations with his followers, the conversations of his disciples among themselves, and characterizations of Confucius himself as given by later generations.
The Lunyu presents the fundamental concepts of Confucianism, exploring them both in a social context and from the perspective of personal growth. The profound meanings embedded in the work allow the reader to penetrate the very essence of the learning process itself, delving into the nuances and subtleties of teacher-student interaction.
For ease of reading, each stanza of the new modern translation of the Lunyu is also presented in the original language, allowing for additional exploration of the text. Therefore, the book will be of interest to both Sinologists of any profile, and to those interested in the philosophy and culture of classical China.
