The great "Book of Songs" by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) was first published in Hamburg in 1827 and immediately put the author among the most important German poets. The cross-cutting theme of this collection is love, unhappy and happy, but in Heine's traditional lyrical theme sounded very fresh: his poetic gift allowed him to find new unexpected intonations - reduced, satirical or everyday and rational. These innovations undoubtedly influenced Russian literature.
Heine was translated into Russian not only by professional translators, but also by outstanding poets (A. Blok, M. Lermontov, I. Annensky, A. Fet, etc.). "The Book of Songs" is offered to the reader in the form in which it was conceived by the poet, without abbreviations and bills.
