Anna Andreyevna Akhmatova (1889-1966) was a poet whose work is unequivocally ranked among the golden fund of Russian literature. "Akhmatova's poetry is not the same for new people as it is for us. We were perplexed, surprised, delighted, argued, and finally became proud. They don't need our raptures. They are not surprised, because they came later," wrote the philologist B.M. Eichenbaum in 1923. The present collection includes poems from the book "The Running of Time", poems from 1941-1966 that were not included in the books, and the poems "Requiem", "By the Way of All the Earth" ("Kitezhanka") and "Poem without a Hero". The texts are verified from autographs kept in state archives and private collections, as well as from the first publications in periodicals. The peculiarities of the author's orthography and punctuation of the originals have been preserved, and the type of recording of the works has been observed as far as possible. The volume is provided with a preface and notes prepared by N.I. Kraineva.
