Sergey Yesenin (1895-1925) was born into a peasant family in the village of Konstantinove, Ryazan province. He began writing poetry at the age of nine. At eighteen he sent them to editors and, according to him, was surprised that his works are not printed. Then he "rumbled" in St. Petersburg, went directly to Blok, who fresh, "holosy" poems of a talented poet-samorodka very much liked. Soon Esenin came to all-Russian fame. After the revolution in popularity with Esenin could be compared with only Mayakovsky, nevertheless, "the last poet of the village" felt like a stranger in the country of the Soviets. He left life young, at the peak of creative forces. The circumstances of Yesenin's tragic fate can no longer be separated from the myths, but his heartfelt lyrics still touch with their confessional sincerity and purity. This edition presents selected poems and poems by Sergei Yesenin.
