Edition in 3 volumes (4 books). One of the most celebrated books in the history of world literature, more than six centuries of undying interest in the widest range of readers. Most of the one hundred novellas in this collection are devoted to the theme of love. The novellas are told over the course of ten days in 1348 in the company of ten well-educated and witty young men who have taken refuge in a villa in a suburb of Florence ravaged by the Black Death. In 1891-1892, a Russian translation of the Decameron, now recognized as a classic, was published. It was performed by the corypheus of Russian science, academician A.N. Veselovsky. Since then, the second edition of this translation (1896) has been replicated many times. However, only a few bibliophiles could get acquainted with the "uncensored" version of this translation in those years, and until recently it was considered irretrievably lost. It is the version reproduced in the first two volumes of this edition without any deletions, taking into account the subsequent editing carried out by A.N. Veselovsky. Moreover, the notes reveal the places which he considered inconvenient for printing, in a number of cases limiting themselves to their suppression, and more often - giving their transpositions. Two books of the third volume contain an article and a commentary on the Decameron by the famous researcher of classical Italian literature M.L. Andreev, as well as an article by one of the largest Moscow bibliophiles L.V. Bessmertnykh summarizing his archival research. The texts of the novellas and canzonas in other Russian translations are also included: by K.N. Batiushkov, P.P. Muratov, L.I. Sokolova, etc.; fragments of A.N. Veselovsky's works that clarify his understanding of Boccaccio, the novellistic genre, and the epoch are also included. All these materials are accompanied by a detailed commentary.
