Boleslav Lesmian is a Polish poet of difficult fate and inexhaustible fantasy. His life-loving and tragic poetry desperately, painfully and passionately comprehends the formidable beauty of the world and the existence of a man in it, whom the poet called “a nether thrown into infinity.” At the same time, "eternal questions" - death, compassion - take on an unexpected form. Lesmian’s poems are full of thought, but he saw the essence of poetry in “so that thoughts become images.” Based on pagan beliefs and legends, folk demonology of the Slavic forest, Lesmyan creates a kaleidoscope of bright and bizarre images, his own mythology, fantastically reflected his vision of the world. Lesmyan’s poetry is contrasting, joy and hopelessness sound in it, despair is softened by bitter irony. From this polyphony, everyone is free to choose a melody to his liking. Therefore, Lesmian’s poetry is attractive, and many of his poems are the pinnacle of twentieth-century Polish poetry.
