The life of Cossack Platon Panteleyev began to crumble in 1918: his two sons split up and took opposite sides in the revolution: Vasily championed the New World Order, while Pyotr found himself in the retreating White Army. Tired of brotherly enmity and irreconcilability, Platon angrily tears apart a family heirloom—a folding icon of the Savior and the Virgin Mary—and gives the pieces to his sons.

A hundred years later, Moscow student Flint comes to the village of Voznesenskoye to learn about his family's past, long shrouded in legend. China and South Africa, Argentina and America—where his ancestors had lived? So his father told him. It's a shame he can no longer ask him what's true and what's fairy tale.

Flint, or rather Platon Panteleyev, doesn't yet know that this ancient village is destined to unite the family image and the two branches of the disparate family to which he belongs.

"And protect our home and all who live in it..." is a remarkable family saga, spanning centuries and continents, about the descendants of the Cossack Platon Panteleev, about irreconcilable brotherly enmity, and also about the strength of blood ties and, undoubtedly, about love—all-forgiving, sacrificial.
