Erich Maria Remarque was a prominent 20th-century German writer, whose works have been translated into dozens of languages. In Russia, he remains one of the most popular foreign authors. His novel "All Quiet on the Western Front" (1928) brought Remarque worldwide fame and became a sensation, selling one and a half million copies. It was soon adapted into a film, and Remarque was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. His novel "Three Comrades" (1936) was first published in Denmark in Danish translation, as Remarque's works were banned in his home country. This book has been called the most beautiful novel about love, the most captivating novel about friendship, and the most poignant novel about human relationships in the history of the twentieth century. His novel "Arc de Triomphe" (1945), included in this edition, is also among Remarque's finest works. It is a novel about the meaning of life in a precarious, unstable world, about humanity and the fragility of happiness, and about love.
