Just yesterday Stefan Schuster was a rather famous director of erotic films in Germany, but now he is forced by the Nazis to shoot a propaganda film about life in an isolated labor camp for members of a national minority. As a segregated, disenfranchised person, he is initially enthusiastic about filming, but each new day convinces Shuster that the script is a lie and that the outward amenities of the Jewish community are just a decoration. And then he decides on a crazy, desperate adventure. The reader will have to travel ten, twenty-five, forty years ahead, cross borders and oceans, find living witnesses of those events and together with the characters of the book to glue together from disparate pieces of the whole story of what turned out for the inhabitants of the labor camp Fuhrer's promise to give them a whole country - Madagascar.
