This publication includes the works of Russian official, scholar, and diplomat Shakhimardan Miryasovich Ibragimov (1841–1891), created during his service in the Turkestan region in the 1870s. The works of Sh. M. Ibragimov, who successfully combined his official duties with academic research and was distinguished by his broad outlook and keen observation, are an invaluable source on the history of the Russian Empire's policy in Central Asia in the second half of the 19th century. The works presented in the first part of the book belong to various genres, from travel notes and diaries to analytical articles. Some of them were published in Russian periodicals in the 1870s. At the same time, "Notes of a Tourist" and "Diary" are being published and introduced into scholarly circulation for the first time. Sh. M. Ibragimov's texts have been brought into line with modern rules of the Russian language and are provided with scholarly commentary. The second part of the book offers a look at the works of the writer and political figure through the eyes of researchers. It is intended for historians and orientalists, legal historians and political scientists, as well as students studying in these educational programs.
