Wehrmacht soldier Wilhelm Lübbecke began his military service in 1939 as a private and finished it as a company commander with the rank of Oberleutnant in 1945. He fought in Poland, France, Belgium and Russia, where he took part in battles on the Volkhov River, in the corridor of the Demian Cauldron, near Novgorod and Lake Ladoga. And in 1944 together with his company with exhausting battles retreated through the Baltic States in the direction of East Prussia. The author tells in detail about hard front everyday life and details of soldiers' life, reflects on what Germany was waiting for and what it got as a result of this war. Lübbecke's memoirs are a survivor's view of the experiences of German soldiers on the fronts of World War II.
