This book is dedicated to a little-studied chapter of Russian military history: artillery preparatory schools (APS), military educational institutions for adolescents that existed from 1946 to 1955. For the first time, a single book covers all military educational institutions for adolescents of the same type.
Created after the Great Patriotic War as part of state military development and social policy measures, the APS were mentioned alongside the Suvorov military schools, but were subsequently forgotten.
The book identifies the reasons for the creation and closure of the APS, their structure, equipment, and aspects and results of their activities. It examines the personnel of the APS (students, officers and petty officers, and instructors) and the uniform characteristics of the students.
Considerable attention is paid to the socio-demographic profile of the students, their value system and the traditions that developed within the APS, as well as the specifics of their relationships with each other and with civilians.
