"Even the most terrifying fairy tales couldn't prepare me, a ten-year-old boy, for meeting those monsters... just as they couldn't predict that I would be saved by a hero in the guise of a monster."

Ten-year-old Leon's favorite pastime was riding the tram with his friends through the streets of Krakow. But everything changed overnight: German soldiers arrived in Poland.

Now Leon was only allowed to ride in the back of the tram. Then, he was banned from riding the tram altogether. One day, his family was forcibly relocated to the ghetto, and soon after, to the Plaszow concentration camp, separating him from his parents. He experienced what no child should ever have to endure. However, no one could take away his will to live.

His family was fortunate to find work in the factory of Oskar Schindler—a man who forever remained a hero and a symbol of light for Leon and the thousands of other Jews he saved, even in the darkest times.
