Marietta Sergeyevna Shaginyan (1888-1982), laureate of the Stalin and Lenin Prizes, Hero of Socialist Labor, was one of the most famous Soviet writers. Her works include historical chronicles, industrial novels, and poetry. In the 1920s, she was an active journalist - a correspondent for Pravda and Izvestia. At the height of the NEP, in 1923-1925, under the pseudonym Jim Dollar, Marietta Shaginyan published with sequels the spy thriller Mess-Mend - the first in the history of Soviet literature. Inspired by the victory of the October Revolution, American workers create a secret proletarian union Mend-Mess to build socialism in America. A fascist union led by Prince Chiche enters the fight against them. The action takes place all over the world. The novel largely predicted the events of World War II. The popularity of the action movie was increased by the film "Miss Mend", which was released in 1926. It was far from the original, but still contributed to the success of the spy saga. It is still read today as a modern and relevant book. See for yourself!
