The book resurrects the history of the famous Yankovsky clan in the Far East. Members of this family, starting with the Polish nobleman and political exile Mikhail Ivanovich Yankovsky, who created his own economic and hunting empire in Primorye at the end of the 19th century, lived a bright life as entrepreneurs, naturalists and writers, full of human happiness and tragedy. Yuri Yankovsky, a representative of the second generation of the family, migrated to Korea with his entire household in October 1922, on the eve of the arrival of the Bolsheviks. Together with his sons Valery, Arseny and Yuri, they won fame in Southeast Asia as legendary tiger hunters. For their hunting talent and accurate shooting, the Yankovskys received the honorary nickname Nenuni from the Koreans, which means "Four-Eyed". After the Red Army arrived in China and Korea in 1945, the Gulag camps awaited them.

The Yankovsky family includes several generations of writers. Mikhail Yankovsky's essay "Askold Island" and Yuri Yankovsky's memoirs "Half a Century of Tiger Hunting" open this book. The writer Valery Yankovsky's story "Nenuni", dedicated to his grandfather, and his cycle of Korean short stories are a fascinating, exotic first-hand chronicle of travels and adventures, scientific research and clashes with the Honghuzi in the taiga wilderness of Primorye, Korea and Manchuria.
