"And the wind returns..." - is the autobiography of the famous Soviet dissident, human rights activist and writer Vladimir Bukovsky. At the center of his story is the phenomenon of punitive psychiatry, a method used by the Soviet authorities to suppress dissenters. Bukovsky spent 12 years in prisons and special hospitals and was the first to speak publicly about this brutal system.
In the book he discusses justice, dignity and the cost of human freedom, and shares his memories of a time when the struggle for freedom of thought turned into personal tragedy. Bukovsky's text is a living testament to history, written by a man who defied his jailers and survived them.
