Arnold Genrikhovich Neggo (1927–1994) created a rare type of book in Soviet literature—the spy novel for teenagers. The latest volume in the "Spies. Case No...." series includes his cycle of works about Ilmar Tammeorg: the novel "Island of Giants" (1958) and the novella "The Blue Lobster" (1966), which long remained bibliographical rarities.
Post-war Estonia. On a remote Baltic island, a boarding school has opened in an ancient knight's castle. But war is not a thing of the past here: "forest wolves" lurk in the forests, whispers of the mysterious Green Hunter linger in the village, and the footsteps of an invisible guest thunder in the castle's dungeons at night. The teenagers, led by Ilmar Tammeorg, begin with a childish hunt for a "ghost," but end up on the trail of a real spy network left behind by the Germans and their henchmen...
The story continues, taking the reader to the Black Sea. A pioneer camp, the white steamship "Equator," foreign guests, and testing of a unique underwater vehicle—the secret "Blue Langust" scuba gear. Once again, Ilmar finds himself at the very center of events: a mysterious passenger, a fall overboard, memory lapses, nighttime signals on the high seas... This time, the enemy agents' target is not only people but also modern technology, capable of changing the rules of the game in the dark ocean depths. The outcome of a serious operation depends on the teenagers' attentiveness and courage.
