This edition includes "History of Russian" by the famous Russian scientist and thinker Vasily Nikitich Tatishchev (1686-1750). Tatishchev is rightly considered the founder of Russian historical science. For thirty years (from 1719 to 1750) he worked on the creation of his main work "Russian History from the Most Ancient Times". To this day, Tatishchev's historical work is a sought-after study that is used and quoted by scholars. Tatishchev prepared the first Russian publication of historical sources, for the first time publicizing the texts of the Russian Pravda and the Judgment of 1550 with detailed comments, thus laying the foundations of Russian source studies. The scientist proposed a periodization of Russian history based on the criteria for the development of state power. According to his scheme, from the IX to XII centuries in Russia was a period of princely unity of power, but it was replaced by a period of fragmentation, which led to the Mongol-Tatar conquest, and only from the middle of the XV century, with the adoption of Ivan III of the royal title, the unity of power was restored, and later strengthened by Tsar Ivan the Terrible. Tatishchev's work covers the history of Russia from the earliest times up to the reign of Fedor Mikhailovich Romanov. The present edition retains the principles of the academic edition of 1962-1968.
