The memoirs of Euphrosyne Kersnovskaya (1907–1994), "How Much Is a Man Worth?" are one of the most astonishing memoirs of the 20th century. It's an almost unbelievable story of a battle with a totalitarian state and how one can emerge victorious from this battle. Kersnovskaya endured 20 years of exile, prison, and labor camps, but the hardships and ordeals did not break her.

The book tells of strength and powerlessness, suffering and humiliation, despair, death, and bloodshed. But you close it with a feeling of light and faith that a person can remain human in any circumstances—and "not give up even a single shred of one's self, but be alive, alive and only alive, alive and only alive, to the end."

The publication contains a color insert with 32 of the author's watercolor drawings, created as illustrations for the book of memoirs, as well as an article "About the Author," which tells about the fate of Kersnovskaya and the history of the book's writing.
