In the early twentieth century, the French-Canadian Pelletier family moves to Colorado after their father takes a job at a marble quarry. Outraged by the sweatshop system adopted at the quarry, Pelletier Sr. attempts to unionize the workers but faces fierce opposition from the company owners. His daughter, seventeen-year-old Sylvie Pelletier, an intelligent, daring and determined girl who has worked with the local newspaper and written articles about the unbearable working conditions in the quarry, sincerely wants to follow the ideals of the family, but almost against her will she falls in love with the heir to the marble empire and finds herself in the circle of the powerful, torn between her lover and her family, barely making ends meet. Sylvie believes that justice is on her side and is ready to fight for it to the end, but will she have the strength and tenacity?
