Boris Vasilyev's novels "Tomorrow Was War" and "The Dawns Are Quiet Here..." are quite different in plot, but very similar in mood: tragic, but at the same time full of faith in victory. "Tomorrow Was War" tells not even about the war, but its premonition, which live ninth graders in a small town. Against the background of the usual youthful crushes and disputes, the drama of the era unfolds: arrests, slander, official indifference and a fervent faith in the cause of the party. "And the dawns are quiet here..." are devoted to a rare in military prose theme - the fate of women in the war. The heroines of the story - very young girls, anti-aircraft gunners, who together with their commander detain a detachment of Nazi saboteurs.
The illustrations by the famous graphic artist Klim Lee are imbued with tenderness and love for the girls forced to become soldiers both in the battle against the fascists and in battles with the system.
