Admiral P. V. Chichagov's previously unpublished Memoirs are being published in Russian for the first time. They cover the "splendid beginning of Alexander's days," when the admiral headed the naval department until his departure for France in 1808, and the events of 1812, which he personally witnessed and actively participated in. New facts about that time are revealed, providing insight into the relationships between high-ranking officials, the author's attitude toward them, and various events in Russian history. The admiral was the only senior Russian military leader to leave his memoirs of that time and offer his own interpretation of the collapse of Napoleon's invasion. The supplement includes diary entries by P. V. Chichagov, describing his departure from St. Petersburg to Great Britain, as well as letters from the admiral himself and to him from various senders - N. P. Rumyantsev, M. I. Kutuzov, A. I. Chernyshev, R. Wilson, S. R. Vorontsov.
