August was a strange August for the inhabitants of a small North American town: every now and then white petals fall from the sky, the summer temperature suddenly drops by ten degrees, at noon porcelain plates crack, at midnight roses bloom, and in an abandoned house on the site where they want to build a new shopping center, flashing alarming lights.
